Capcom is busting out a new fighter based on the best selling erotic game of all time Fate/Stay Night. Dubbed Fate/Tiger Colosseum, the game is being tooled over by Bullet Witch developer Cavia for the PSP. Cavia's work on Bullet Witch was rushed and spotty, but fingers gently crossed they're able to pull it together for a solid fighter.

<![CDATA[Bullet Witch DLC - Anyone Care?]]> Of all the Xbox 360 games to have their content bolstered by inexpensive downloadable content, it had to be Bullet Witch, the most amazingly average game ever released for the console. Atari has announced the beginnings of a long stream of DLC coming out over the course of the coming weeks, starting with a free White Witch costume, a theme pack, and the new "Dynamite Beauty" mission, which only costs 20 points. Both of these should be available soon, if not now.

Then the next few weeks will see the release of five new missions, five enhanced versions of original missions, and several new costumes, including schoolgirl, secretary, pixie, and mummy. It really is a staggering amount of support for a game that is hardly even worth renting.

First Bullet Witch Downloadable Content On Xbox Live Marketplace

New Costume, Themes and Gameplay Content Available Now, More to Follow

LYON, FRANCE - 28 March 2007 - Atari today announced the first downloadable content for Bullet Witch available now on Xbox Live Marketplace. Launched in February for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Bullet Witch is published by Atari in partnership with Japanese publisher AQ Interactive Inc.

The first set of new downloadable content includes a free brand new White Witch costume for the game's stunning heroine Alicia and a Bullet Witch Xbox 360 Theme pack. In addition, for 20 points each, players can download one brand new mission "Dynamite Beauty" and two enhanced versions of the "Clad in Streaming Black" mission featuring 'Great Spells' unlocked and a heightened level of difficulty respectively.

Over the coming weeks, more free costumes for Alicia will be available free of charge - Mummy, Schoolgirl, Secretary and Pixie. Additional new missions 'Caterpillar City', 'Endless', 'One Shot Kill' and 'Geist Search and Destroy', plus enhanced editions of the missions 'City of Screams', 'Up in Flames at 10,000ft', 'Down in the Valley', 'The Bound Soul' and 'The End of Chaos', will be available for 20 points each.

Developed by Japan-based Cavia, Bullet Witch is set on a bleak planet earth in the year 2013 with human kind on the brink of extinction and hideous demons creating a tidal wave of destruction and havoc. All hope of mankind's survival rests with Alicia, a beautiful witch blessed with magical skills and a swift trigger finger. Players take control of Alicia on her heroic quest to prevent the decimation of mankind by using her fearsome weaponry and spectacular powers with which she can manipulate natural phenomena in her environment.

<![CDATA[People Really Hate Bullet Witch]]>

Poor Bullet Witch. Originally released in Japan as an exclusive to a crowd of shrugs. Atari picked it up, had the developer finish the game and then released it in the States. Reviews haven't been so hot. Over at game site The Last Boss, a list is included why to stay away from this game. Here's a partial look:

  • Idiotic AI
  • Unfinished graphics and ugly textures
  • Lighted areas too bright
  • Dark areas too black
  • No lock-on
  • Cheap deaths
  • Horrendous voice-acting
  • Cumbersome system for casting spells
  • Camera angle too low to the ground
  • Floating brains
  • Invisible and visible barriers all over the place

A few months back, I bought Bullet Witch and can agree with the unfinished graphics, bum camera angle and the annoying invisible barriers. But complaining about giant floating brains? Come on!

<![CDATA[Week in Games: Bullet Witch Edition]]>

A wealth of new releases this week although few of them merit a lot of fanfare. Bullet Witch looks interesting although it has gotten pretty craptacular reviews so far. Even with all these new titles though, this week my heart lies with an old classic: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

<![CDATA[Atari Hitting Up NY Comic Con]]> atariforce.jpgAtari has plans to hit up the 2nd Annual New York Comic Con later this month, where they will be showcasing three of their upcoming titles in the form of playable kiosks setup throughout the show floor. On display will be Godzilla: Unleashed for the Wii and DS, Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai: Another Road for the PSP, and Bullet Witch for the Xbox 360. Why Comic Con?
"While Godzilla: Unleashed, Bullet Witch and DBZ Shin Budokai: Another Road offer different gameplay features, storylines and visual flair, all three share a common bond of Japanese art and influence - a bond that has been extremely prevalent in comics and other popular art forms."

Between this and Warhammer Online making a showing, sounds like Comic Con is going to be quite an event for gamers. I hear they might even have some comic books there too, if you're in to that sort of thing.

<![CDATA[Bullet Witch, Now Finally Finished]]>

The Japanese version of Bullet Witch was wonk. The controls were not tight, and the game felt unfinished. But Bullet Witch has been picked up by Atari for US release and has been tweaked and smoothed over by the game's developer Cavia. Says Atari's Matt Rush:

The stages are huge and when Alicia starts wreaking havoc on the massive environments there's a lot to keep track of, but Cavia's done a superb job at tightening things up for the US version on top of that... Cavia was able to tweak things like the AI, the shooting view, textures, lighting, and fine tune the gameplay of course.

So, Cavia, can I have my money back?

<![CDATA[Trashy Bullet Witch Costumes Rated By Fashionista]]>

Movie stars get grilled by the fashion police so why not game stars? Christian Nutt has a feature up at Games Radar that does just that. Stephen Pierce, grad of The London College of Fashion rates the fashion sense of Bullet Witch's Alicia. Stand out quote:

The directional choice of the 'Pantkerchief' is brave, and would take the wearer from a Parisian cuddle party to a trailer park chicken-chase with ease. The studious specs suggest a woman who could lecture on quantum theory, before going to town on your ass with a fist-full of Chinese Love Eggs.

<![CDATA[Pre-order Bullet Witch, Get Bullet Witch Comic]]>

You know Bullet Witch right? It's one of those near future, post-apocalyptic, zombie killing, withcraft 'n' guns games. The kind that aren't too good (Ashcraft says it's "shit"), but star a nubile protagonist with a hellspawn exterminating streak decked out in costumes unsuitable for combat, making it an instant purchase for the lonely, Xbox 360-owning Japanese crowd.

While our man in Japan says the controls are wonk, the third-person shooter from AQ Interactive is being localized by Atari for a late February release. They're throwing out an extra incentive—outside of revealing outfits—in the form of a pre-order only comic book. While I think it would've secured more reservations if they'd gone with the school girl outfit cover, it looks pretty nice.

Anyone out there hungry to get their Bullet Witch on next month?

<![CDATA[Dressing Up Bullet Witch, Still Better Than Playing Bullet Witch]]>

Alicia from the Japanese 360 game Bullet Witch is getting a few new costumes to kill bad dudes in. The new outfits range from goth school teacher sexy to bizarro mummy.

Eh...

Yes, they're wheeling out the bandage look. No word whether or not this will find its way into the US release. I just wish they'd spent more time cleaning up the wonk controls and less on weird shit.

<![CDATA[Exclusive: Playboy's Women of Video Games Picture]]> WomenofGamesProtectedKotaku.jpg

What you see before you is a sketch Playboy put together for November's issue (on stands next week) which features the annual Playboy's Women of Videogames 2006 spread. The magazine will also feature a look at the state of the video game industry. The six-pages of gaming content include a 2-page foldout, final version of what you see above.

This particular sketch, given to us by Pboy editor Scott Alexander, was used to block the shot before the final renders were done. The image shows eight women from seven games. The cool thing is that all of the art you are looking out, be it pencil or final 3D render, was done by the various game studios. Playboy then melded all of the art into one two-page shot.

This image, showing the different stages of the creative process, is exclusive to Kotaku. No one else has it and no one else is getting it.

And now the run down. From left to right: Sarah Morrison of Tabula Rasa, two of the Femmes Fatale from Scarface (the third from left didn't make the final cut, her name is Jessica McRae), two women from God of War 2, a very preliminary version of Alicia Claus from Bulletwitch, Dr. Jasmine Lin from Timeshift, and Enrica from Splinter Cell Double Agent.

As a special treat, I got Fleshbot to agree to post the unedited version of the photo on their site a little later on tonight. I'll update once it's up.

<![CDATA[Crecente Says I'm Young (Which Makes Me Old)]]>

Bullet Witch was actually a presents of sorts. From me, to me. Today is my birthday. I turn 28. While Crecente used the word "whippersnapper," 1Up's Luke snarked that 28 is "old" and that Bullet Witch is a "turd." Luke hates everything, birthdays included.

I'm at the point where it doesn't matter whether or not if I get a cake or presents, really. And before this turns into an omg-soon-I'm-gonna-be-thirty post, I'd like to ask Japan to stop putting fruit on cakes. Creamy frosty is enough. Strawberries, apples and melon are not compulsory. I like my cake and fruit separate, geddit?

I assume this could've been worked out at the bakery.

Guns and witchcraft, on the other hand, are actually a pretty decent combo. Third-person-shooter Bullet Witch tells the story of Alicia, a witch, who trades her broomstick for a broomstick-like machine gun. She's an enchantress on a mission, out to save the world on the verge of extinction.

Quick and dirty: The bullet-plus-witch element is novel and fun. While spell weaving compliments bang-bang, the actual shooting itself is somewhat lacking. When Bullet Witch was released in Japan, the game's "deep physics" were pumped. Yet, while it's possible to blow up a tanker from a mile away, it's impossible to shoot out a store window from three feet. Annoying. Another gripe is that all the bad guys (so far, at least) look the same, but that doesn't really concern me right now. I've got pettier concerns, like picking the kiwi fruit off my cake.

<![CDATA[Western Gamers Get Envied]]>

Since the mid-1980's, gamers have looked at Japan with big puppy dog eyes, drooling over at the "exclusive" titles that rarely make it to Western shores. Some did, but most didn't. The hardcore would even get on airplanes to buy these very "Japan Only" titles to play on their Japanese consoles.

Times have changed.

As game writer Tim Rogers pointed out, right now, if you own an Xbox 360, you are most likely playing Dead Rising. I own a 360, but I am not playing Dead Rising. Why? I live in Japan, and the game isn't out here yet. (Yes, I know I could import, but still!)

By my unofficial calculations, there must be 731 Xbox 360 games out in North America. In Japan, we've got like thirty games. And finding those games can be a chore. For example, at the Super Potato near my house (yes, I live near a Super Potato, I win), they don't even carry Xbox 360 games. Though, retailers like Sofmap in Den-Den Town have redone their displays and are prominently featuring the console's games, it still can be a challenge at times to find what you are looking for.

Japanese Xbox 360 owners I know hit the import shops as soon as new titles come out and wade through unlocalized, English language versions of Oblivion. Hate when Japan gets some cool PS2 game? Sick of wondering when it will be released in your local shop? Tired of struggling through Japanese versions of some DS title? These guys can relate. And so can I.

That being said, I am playing Japan 360 title Bullet Witch right now.

<![CDATA[Bullet Witch: Sexy Zombie Hunting On Your 360]]>

Although our editorial staff is comprise of various human strata of preference, taste, ethnicity and intelligence, Kotaku is united under the banner of one over-arcing gamer philosophy: "The more post-apocalyptic zombie games, the better!" So we all started twitching in communal arousal when we saw this trailer for the upcoming Bullet Witch over at Destructoid, which they described as "Devil May Cry + estrogen." It's due out on the 360 later this year, although no word if it's coming to the States. We'll break our fingers keeping them crossed.
